Flush and Tube Stone Setting

Prerequisite: Fabrication and Soldering Level 1 or Weekend Workshop

Time: 2 Day Class, 12 Hour Workshop

In this 2-day workshop, students will explore tube setting and flush setting with faceted stones. They will also learn how to modify tools and make their own tools, including making a burnisher. Students will be provided with material and projects prepared (done by instructor) for the setting process. 

Students will be responsible for bringing their own basic hand tools as well as those specified below.

Tools:

  • Ring clamp

  • Flat file

  • Needle files (square [new file], barrette, flat, triangle, round)

  • Drill bits (1mm, 1.5mm, 1.7mm, 2.3mm)

  • Round ball bur (1.7mm, 2.6)

  • Bezel rocker

  • Bezel pusher

  • Fine point dividers

  • Scribe

  • Safety glasses

  • Dust mask

  • Center punch

  • Notebook to take notes

  • Optivisors or magnification

  • Knife edge and flat mounted rubber wheels for flex shaft (fine, medium and coarse)

  • Setting bur (2mm, 3mm)

  • Bur life or lube for the burs

  • Setter’s wax

  • Round gravers handle

  • Sandpaper (220, 400, 600)

  • Scotch bright green abrasive pad

  • Digital calipers

  • Heatless mizzy wheel
