Box It Up

Learn to fabricate a round box from sterling silver and set a stone on top. This class will take you through some advanced fabrication processes that you could use to create more complicated pieces. You will fabricate a small box with a lip so the top and bottom fit together nicely. On the lid, we will solder a bezel and set a round stone perfectly centered. You must have competent skills in making a ring and setting a stone.

What To Bring: Students need to bring a basic toolbox with files, sanding sticks, saw frame and blades, pliers and standard tools. Tool rental will also be available for a fee of $50(paid to the studio). Needle files, flat file, saw and saw blades (3/0 and 2), ring mandrel, bezel mandrel, wire cutters, pliers (flat, half-round/flat, chain nose, round nose/flat, parallel pliers), mallet, goldsmithing hammer, bezel rocker, machinist square, dividers, sanding sticks, metal calipers, ring-closing pliers (aka-bow closing pliers), sandpaper, Sterling Silver Sheet - 20g (0.8mm) 6"x1.5". (Metal will also be available for purchase)
