Rivets + Techniques for the Union of Repurposed Materials with Jesse Bert
Technical procedures for use and application of repurposed materials in contemporary jewelry
As a maker or jewelry artist, sometimes it’s difficult to know which might be the best material to use for the type of object you wish to make. In this workshop, instructor Jesse Bert will talk with students about what is important to take into consideration for a good application, mounting or connecting of dissimilar materials. Students will be led through the process and procedure for the perforation of distinct materials.
Jesse has 17 years of experience working to create finished jewelry objects, the base of which are made with found or repurposed materials. A key element of all the work Jesse makes is the use of cold connections, such as rivets, and he has it down to a science. Students will learn a special method for the preparation and use of rivets, in order to learn about the process and experiment during the class. They will be able to incorporate found or repurposed materials in their work.
